Usually a stag in lure runs directly to the call sound so it’s better to be on the alert, otherwise red deer stag will notice the trickery and will run away. If a red deer stag only answer a call but does not approach to, it’s necessary to go directly to it, crack twigs and branches, but not to hit trees with a stick. A red deer stag rushed to the call usually is approaching fearlessly but in a distance of 100 m stops. If the hunter chose the right place the shot will be successful. The gray wolf or grey wolf (Canis lupus), often known simply as the wolf, is the largest extant wild member of the Canidae family. Its body average length is 105-160 cm, height is 80-85 cm and up to 1 m. Usually the weight is 30-50 kg. In case of need wolf gathers speed up to 60 km/h. Wolf is able to do passages up to 80 km in a night. Wolf is well known by its voracity. Being hungry it’s able to eat up to 100 kg of meat. In Belarus the wolf eats hoofed mammals: roe deer, wild boar, red deer, moose; it’s not squeamish about rodent and birds eating, also it eats berries and different fruits.

In Belarus the wolf has always been considered a harmful animal and its hunting game is permitted all year long. Several methods of wolf hunting exists: winter driven hunting game with flags, summer driven hunting game around wolf coach, hunting game with a call, stalking hunting game, hunting game from a hide, wolf hunting with traps.

Winter hunting game with flags. It’s the most effective method of hunting game. It consists on the following: a gamekeeper walk round the place where probably wolves are sleeping and by a number of entrance and exit traces determines a presence of the wolf inside. After this some hunters span a cord with flags around this area.

Red and/or yellow flags are hung up at a height of 25-35 cm from the snow surface in well visible places. It’s considered normal an area of 4-5 km of circumference.

Then inside the area, some 30-40 m from the flags line, in the places of most probable appearance of wolf hunters are placed. And beaters get down to work. It’s not recommended to do a lot of noise. To displace wolf it’s enough to cough a little bit. Animals are not afraid much because of that and will go quite. In this case it easier to hit a wolf.

The driven hunt is not very complicated. Knowing a forest part where roe deer (roebuck) traces were found and also a favorite direction of escaping it’s possible to do a driven hunt with a minimum of hunters.

During roe deer (roebuck) mating season a hunting game with a call may be carried out. Imitating roe deer (roebuck) female voice in that period (from the middle of July till the end of August) hunters call roe deer (roebuck) males.

Hunting in hide from towers. The advantage of hide form towers consists in the fact that for roe deer (roebuck) it’s more difficult to smell and/or hear a man, but a hunter sees farther ahead and disquiets an animal less.

In Belarus stalking hunting game is considered as more active.

Stalking hunting game is carried out only at dawn: in the early morning hours all hoofed mammals and roe deer (roebuck) in particular graze or go to sleep on fewer alert in comparison with day or gloaming.

In day and bright evening time roe deer (roebuck) gazes on an open territory only where it’s not disturbed. In Belarus in noisy areas roe deer (roebuck) leaves forest only in the dark.

The most successful stalking hunting game may occur after a long bad weather. The first calm morning is to be profited. When it’s rainy and windy in the forest it’s dripping and roe deer (roebuck) seeks to go to open space and it’s easier to approach to animals in that time comparing with a dry weather.

In roe deer (roebuck) stalking hunting game the outerwear correct selection is very important. The fabric should be light, warm and silent. The color is to imitate natural colors of the ambient.
