Red deer stag hunting game in Belarus

Red deer stag hunting game in Belarus

Red deer stag hunting in Belarus
Red deer stag hunting in Belarus
In Belarus the red deer lure period lasts from the end of august till the beginning of October.

In the lure the strongest red deer stags drive weaker males off and create harems of 2-3 sometimes up to 15 females. The bigger the harem becomes the weaker the voice of the stag is heard.

Stags and hilus determine strength of a rival by its roar tone, in its heyday a red deer stag has hoarse and low voice. Red deer stags zealously guard their females and having heard the roar of a rival rush to the attack. Antlers strikes and enraged red deer stags croaks are heard from far away. Sometimes a weak red deer stag dies because of injures got.

In Belarus in the beginning of the lure period solitary red deer stags occupy determinate areas sometimes the same during some years. Excited they strike and bark small trees with their antlers, break sticks.

Hunting red deer stag in lure it’s necessary to call from time to time. Usually a stag in lure runs directly to the call sound so it’s better to be on the alert, otherwise red deer stag will notice the trickery and will run away. For red deer stag hunting facilitation the best way is to hunt in two: one calls, another shoots. If a red deer stag only answer a call but does not approach to, it’s necessary to go directly to it, crack twigs and branches, but not to hit trees with a stick. Reed deer stag, thinking that a rival comes to it, runs itself to the hunter. Now the most important red deer stag doesn’t see or sense the hunter. A red deer stag rushed to the call usually is approaching fearlessly but in a distance of 100 m stops. If the hunter chose the right place the shot will be successful. A young red deer stag comes to the call slowly, guardedly, without giving a voice.
In Belarus the best red deer stag lure hunting game is in the morning and evening. At night red deer stag roars more and goes to the call fearlessly. Some people hunt in bright moon nights, others at night detect red deer stag presence and approach to it and shoot at daybreak.

The gray wolf or grey wolf (Canis lupus), often known simply as the wolf, is the largest extant wild member of the Canidae family. Its body average length is 105-160 cm, height is 80-85 cm and up to 1 m. Usually the weight is 30-50 kg. In case of need wolf gathers speed up to 60 km/h. Wolf is able to do passages up to 80 km in a night. Wolf is well known by its voracity. Being hungry it’s able to eat up to 100 kg of meat. In Belarus the wolf eats hoofed mammals: roe deer, wild boar, red deer, moose; it’s not squeamish about rodent and birds eating, also it eats berries and different fruits.

In Belarus the wolf has always been considered a harmful animal and its hunting game is permitted all year long. Several methods of wolf hunting exists: winter driven hunting game with flags, summer driven hunting game around wolf coach, hunting game with a call, stalking hunting game, hunting game from a hide, wolf hunting with traps.

Winter hunting game with flags. It’s the most effective method of hunting game. It consists on the following: a gamekeeper walk round the place where probably wolves are sleeping and by a number of entrance and exit traces determines a presence of the wolf inside. After this some hunters span a cord with flags around this area.

Red and/or yellow flags are hung up at a height of 25-35 cm from the snow surface in well visible places. It’s considered normal an area of 4-5 km of circumference.

Then inside the area, some 30-40 m from the flags line, in the places of most probable appearance of wolf hunters are placed. And beaters get down to work. It’s not recommended to do a lot of noise. To displace wolf it’s enough to cough a little bit. Animals are not afraid much because of that and will go quite. In this case it easier to hit a wolf.
A bait putting favours a success of wolf driven hunting game. It keeps wolves in areas opportune for wolf hunting game.

In the world there are more than 110 types of ducks. In Belarus it’s permitted to hunt the following ducks: Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos), Gadwall (Anas strepera), Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata), Garganey (Anas querquedula), Eurasian Teal (Anas crecca), Tufted Duck (Aythya fuligula), Common Pochard (Aythya ferina), Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus), Eurasian Coot (Fulica atra).

In Belarus one of the waterfowl (ducks) shooting is the hunting with a call hen. A hen decoys drakes by its voice and a hunter, hided in a blind or other special hide, shoots them. If the hunter can imitate voices of different ducks or/and has good calls, it’s useful from time to time, especially having noticed a flock flying, to give a call. Sometimes by means of a call it’s possible to decoy flying drake even if the call hen doesn’t see it. Shooting ducks it’s necessary to be careful and not to hit the call hen.

Jump shooting waterfowl (ducks) is carried out from the beginning of summery hunting. One or some hunters near o in the water of a basin, where there are ducks, put them up and shoot them flying.

In Belarus waterfowl (ducks) shooting from a boat is carried out in rivers o lakes with swampy or plant-filled coasts where it’s impossible to walk. Usually two hunters go in a boat in a river or lake. One of them steer the boat by means of an oar or punt pole and another sitting or staying on the bow shoots duck taking wing.
Waterfowl (ducks) pass shooting. In Belarus after autumn moult finished when adult ducks put their new clothes and young ones start to fly, waterfowl begins its daily passes from sleeping places to eating ones and backwards. During such passes waterfowl (ducks) keep the same routes. It permits to predict they appearance and select an appropriate position for shooting.

During roe deer (roebuck) mating season a hunting game with a call may be carried out. Imitating roe deer (roebuck) female voice in that period (from the middle of July till the end of August) hunters call roe deer (roebuck) males.
Hunting in hide from towers. The advantage of hide form towers consists in the fact that for roe deer (roebuck) it’s more difficult to smell and/or hear a man, but a hunter sees farther ahead and disquiets an animal less.
In Belarus stalking hunting game is considered as more active.
Stalking hunting game is carried out only at dawn: in the early morning hours all hoofed mammals and roe deer (roebuck) in particular graze or go to sleep on fewer alert in comparison with day or gloaming.
In day and bright evening time roe deer (roebuck) gazes on an open territory only where it’s not disturbed. In Belarus in noisy areas roe deer (roebuck) leaves forest only in the dark.
The most successful stalking hunting game may occur after a long bad weather. The first calm morning is to be profited. When it’s rainy and windy in the forest it’s dripping and roe deer (roebuck) seeks to go to open space and it’s easier to approach to animals in that time comparing with a dry weather.
In roe deer (roebuck) stalking hunting game the outerwear correct selection is very important. The fabric should be light, warm and silent. The color is to imitate natural colors of the ambient.

Partridge hunting game in Belarus

partridge hunting game

In Belarus it’s recommendable to start hunting game at 7-8 a.m. when partridge is sill on open space and at the evening after 17 p.m. In overcast days hunting game may be held all day long.

Due to often a partridge run a long while before a dog and excite it, in Belarus partridge hunting game with novice pointing dogs is not advisable. The later on the partridge becomes more careful, and in the second half of September, October it’s to go to partridge hunting only with a self-possessed dog with a good nose.

During hunting game put up partridge fly up in one group and fly to a significant distance – up to 300-500 m. On broken terrain sometimes it’s impossible to catch sight of where they have moved, but knowing that partridge fly more or less directly, a hunter with a good dog will find them again. After 2-3 raises usually partridge group is divided and hunting game is continued to small ones or separate birds.

Certainly in Belarus partridge hunting game success mainly depends on knowing the terrain and partridge habits.
The closer to the winter the partridge becomes more cautious and hunting game is more difficult.

The next moose rut (lure) signs will be “kopki”. So called pits made by a noose with its hoofs in a place when a moose female in lure has urinated. A presence of “kopki” shows that the moose rut (lure) has reached its apogee. More active moose rut periods are afterglow and daybreak. In a week, a week and a half the rut (lure) finishes. In Belarus overall the total period of the moose rut (lure) extended almost up to a month is subdivided in three parts – beginning of the rut (lure), apogee of the rut (lure) and finish of the rut (lure).
Mooses full of strength are more active in the beginning of the rut (lure). In that period they are more mobile and looking for a female respond a calling easy.
A hunter calling may imitate moose male and/or female voices.
In Belarus when the rut (lure) is finishing a hunter may shoot a big trophy moose only by chance. Young mooses (4-6 points) especially in that period begin to look for females in a delayed lure, they answer and go to the calling very easy.
